Our Horses

Shasta is an Evanescent Mustang. She came to us in April of 2022 gentled and ready to be halter and saddle broke. We are working with her, training her, and allowing her to grow a bit more. Please help us support Shasta in finding her forever home through your kind donations! 

Rio came to us in April of 2022. He loves to be loved on. He is halter trained and working to be saddle gentled. He has been saddled and bridled with the next step being driving. Queen came to us from the Center for Racehorse Retraining as they thought she would be a good kid horse.  They were correct. Over the last couple of months, she has learned to walk, trot, easy, whoa with just a liberty rein on her neck.  She is great with our kids! Denali came to us in April of 2022. He is quite a looker. He is a buckskin with zebra stripes and a baby doll head. He loves to be groomed and loved. He is halter trained and can carry a saddle and bridle. Please help us support Denali in finding his forever home through your kind donations!

Ruby was surrendered to us in April of 2022 unable to be haltered because her last halter had to be cut off. She is working with her trainer to trust humans. Currently in her training, she is able to be groomed,  and loved on but has a while to go before she is halter and saddle broke. We continue to work with her and progress in her training. Rita came to us from the Center for Racehorse Retraining and thought to be a good kid horse. We have been training her to become a western dressage horse. Rita is a very social horse and is great for an intermediate rider. Please help us support Rita in finding her forever home through your kind donations! 

Hank is a retired trail horse. He is also helping our novice riders learn about horsemanship. He is kind and although a bit older, still full of energy! Hank is a great horse and is ready to ride. Hank has competed at our local gymkhanas with our children and done a great job! He was surrendered to us in April of 2022. Wall-E came to us in 2021 from woman who what battling health issues and had been rescued from a kill pen. Since being at GVHR, Wall-E has hit a growth spurt and is doing very well. He is a great horse and loves all the attention. He loves to be loved on as much as he is ridden. Wall-E is very happy to still be learning a lot about riding. Butter was rescued from the kill pens in July of 2021 with open wounds, a respiratory infection, and untouchable. Since then, Butter has physically healed and is becoming the sweetest horse. She is now able to be rode by an intermediate rider. We continue to work with her and train her in western riding. Sundance has been at the Eagles and Wild Horses Ranch and is now halter trained and ready to transition from the ranch to our rescue to be saddle trained. Please help us support Sundance in finding his forever home through your kind donations! 

Etta was an alternate at the Meeker Mustang Makeover. We have been asked to accept her into our program to be trained as a youth performance horse. Please help us find Etta her forever home through your kind donations. 

Cirrus is a Little Book Cliff Mustang. She was found in a kill pen and rescued by another rescue. She was transferred to us through an interrescue transfer to be trained as a youth performance horse. Please help up find Cirrus her forever home through your kind donations.

Simon is our main horsemanship lesson horse. He is kind and slow. Perfect for the beginning stages of learning how to ride! Please help us keep him at the rescue through your kind donations.

Paulsar is a main staple at the Grand Valley Horse Rescue. As a permanently lame, orphan, he is working through his healing and while working as an emotional support horse. Please help us keep him at the rescue through your kind donations. 

Max is an original GVHR Horse and came in very damaged with very hurt legs, a broken jaw that was not properly healed, and intense mental blocks with barrels. After a lot of love and work, Max is now a great kid horse and loves being ridden and loved on. He is able to take riders to our local gymkhanas and dressage shows. Oreo was surrendered to us in May of 2022. He was under-weight but so sweet and kind. We have spent some time helping him regain the weight needed and getting him back to health. He is only able to hold 100lbs, saddle and all, due to a back injury. He has been doing great with young, beginner riders. Please help us keep him at the rescue through your kind donations. 

Babe was surrendered to us in July of 2021. Babe is unrideable because of arthritis but is social and loves to be around her BFF Emma Lou and to be loved on by humans. Please help us keep her at the rescue through your kind donations! 

Shirley is a Hallelujah Horse from South Dakota. She came to our rescue in April of 2022 gentled and ready to work on being halter and saddle broke. We are working hard with her sweet personality to get used to the tame lifestyle. She loves to have kids love on her and train her. Big Kenny is a Hallelujah Horse from South Dakota. He came to us in April of 2022 gentled and ready to be halter and saddle broke. We are working with him to get used to the tame lifestyle. He loves a good butt scratch from his kids here at the rescue. Please help us keep him at the rescue through your kind donations. 

Cameo is a wild mustang from the Little Bookcliff area. She came to us in May of 2022 as a surrender and was adopted in July of 2022. Thank you for helping us find Cameo her forever home! 

Notch is a wild mustang from the Little Bookcliff area. She came to us in May of 2022 as a surrender and was adopted in July of 2022. Thank you for helping us find Notch her forever home! 

William is adopted and loved by his forever family! We continue to see William daily as he is boarded at our rescue. It is so fun to watch him love on his family daily!

Sterling was adopted by one of our GVHR families and is loving his newfound home. We get to see Sterling daily and watch him thrive as his family serves as our second location for horses that need some extra down time to graze and grow without being rode.  

Renata found her forever girl and is having a wonderful time connecting with and loving on her princess.
