The Colorado Horse Rescue Network and the Grand Valley Horse Rescue are teaming up to offer the first Equine Assist Weekend in Western Colorado.

The Equine Assist Weekend will offer free teeth floating for horses over twenty, free castrations, free euthanasia and will offer open surrenders on April 30 and May 1 at the Mesa County Fairgrounds.

On April 30 and May 1, 2022, the Colorado Horse Rescue Network (CHRN) and the Grand Valley Horse Rescue (GVHR) will be offering an Equine Assist Weekend at the Mesa County Fairgrounds, 2765 US 50, Grand Junction, Colorado from 9 AM to 5 PM. This event will offer free castrations for horses over the age of 1, and free teeth floating for horses over the age of 20. Both the castration and floating vet services are by appointment only and appointments are made by contacting Mayra at 720-202-9994 or at officemanager@coloradohorserescuenetwork.com.

On May 1, this event will offer free euthanasia and open surrender with a $100 buy out option available upon request. The Brand Inspectors have requested that horses being surrendered have the brand inspection completed naming Colorado Horse Rescue Network as new owners prior to arriving at the event. For assistance in locating a Brand Inspector please email GVHorseRescue@gmail.com.

This is the first Equine Assist Weekend in Western Colorado. CHRN has hosted several of these events on the Eastern Slope of Colorado with great success. The cost to hold this event will be close to $11,000, therefore any donation to support this event would be greatly appreciated. To donate to the programs the Assistance Weekend offers:

Recently, CHRN became the recipient of the Horse Plus Humane Society, Full Circle of Life Shelter Grant and have been featured on the YouTube series, Horse Rescue Heroes! This extraordinary opportunity included being mentored by Horse Plus Humane Society. When CHRN learned about GVHR, they decided to pay if forward by partnering with GVHR on this event so they can learn and grow.

Grand Valley Horse Rescue, located in Western Colorado, launched on Halloween 2020, by a group of 8 children, ages 6 to 11, with parental support. Their mission is to rescue horses and train them into youth performance horses, to provide affordable access to horses for the children of the community and to construct an equine cross-country course so that individuals in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah can pursue their Olympic dreams.

Even though GVHR was started by and is being operated by children, it is having great success in that youth volunteers have increased 300% and there are six horses on the waiting list. Therefore, to better serve the needs of the community GVHR has been investigating purchasing its own property and needs 240 monthly sponsors at $22 per month to move forward with the purchase.. Please become a monthly sponsor!
