Queen came to us from the Center for Racehorse Retraining as they thought she would be a good kid horse. They were correct. Over the last couple of months, she has learned to walk, trot, easy, whoa with just a liberty rein on her neck. She is great with our kids! Hank is a retired trail horse. He is also helping our novice riders learn about horsemanship. He is kind and although a bit older, still full of energy! Hank has competed at our local gymkhanas with our children and done a great job! He was surrendered to us in April of 2022. Al Capony

8 years old - Shetland Pony

Al Capony was found in a kill pen in Louisiana then transported to Steamboat Springs to be a riding pony for a little girl. However, Al has Cushing disease, equine metabolic syndrome, and flexural limb deformity rendering him unable to be ridden so he was surrendered to GVHR. As a forever horse, Al is the ambassador for GVHR by attending local events.

When Teddy arrived at GVHR, he needed 100 pounds and slow conditioning to improve muscle tone. He is quickly becoming a favorite with the Wranglers herd.

She was surrendered to GVHR because of behavioral issues. GVHR determined the cause of her behavioral issues as a previous injury and she is being trained with a different bridle. She is in the foster to adopt program.

Tango

4 year old grade gelding

Tango is lucky and blessed. He was bailed out of a kill pen because he was advertised as a Piceance mustang. He is not a mustang, but he is at the rescue and will be in training.

Sundance is a 12 year-old Range Creek mustang gelding. He had 8 owners, in 5 states in 3 years before arriving at Grand Valley Horse Rescue. He will be ready to move to the rescue for training this summer.

Babe is a 28 year-old Paint mare, who is a sanctuary horse. She has arthritis and is going blind, but has her best friend, Emma Lou, beside her. She spent the bulk of her life alone so spending her end days with a friend is critical.

Outlaw

Outlaw is an 18 year old Quarter horse, who came into the rescue the week before Thanksgiving skin and bones needing 300 pounds. He has steadily been gaining weight and has become a fan favorite with the Wrangler herd. Please help support Outlaw while he continues to improve with his conditioning.

Success Stories

Sterling Silver Dollar

Sterling was adopted by one of our GVHR families and is loving his newfound home. We get to see Sterling daily and watch him thrive as his family serves as our second location for horses that need some extra down time to graze and grow without being rode.

Renata found her forever girl and is having a wonderful time connecting with and loving on her princess.

Cirrus

Cirrus is a Little Book Cliff Mustang. She found her forever home after going through a lot. We are so happy she has found a family who loves her!

Shasta is an Evanescent Mustang. She came to us in April of 2022 gentled and ready to be halter and saddle broke. She found her forever family through a volunteer at GVHR and they make a wonderful match for one another!

Ruby

Ruby was surrendered to us in April of 2022 unable to be haltered because her last halter had to be cut off. She worked hard with her girl and learned to trust, be haltered, saddled, and now is learning to ride. She is so thankful to have found someone who loves her so much. Ruby has been leased and has a wonderful home for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your support and help.

Rio

Rio came to us in April of 2022. He loves to be loved on and will do most anything for his girl! Rio has been leased and has a wonderful home for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your support and help.

William is adopted and loved by his forever family! We continue to see William daily as he is boarded at our rescue. It is so fun to watch him love on his family daily!
